Background & Introduction
Although the Ottoman Mehter march and the Japanese Gunka are separated by both time and distance, they share one important thing in common: they are musical military styles of their respective countries. This investigation will look further into each of these two different musical forms. By using a notable piece from each style and using it as foundation, we will compare both forms from a professional musical perspective. The march "Ceddin Deden Artar" will be used as comparative base for the Ottoman Mehter march form, when comparing it to the Gunka, which will be using the piece "Thousands of Enemies May Come" as comparative base.
